The Rocky Journey

Hello, fellow humans. My name is Andrii Iarmolenko. I’m originally from Ukraine, but I moved to the USA 12 years ago, when I was 20 (do the math, how old I am). I’m a very active person; I love riding bikes, rock climbing, and breaking and fixing everything around my apartment. My career journey here started as a handyman in a hotel, then as a plumber in a construction company, but as of 2017, I’ve been working as a bartender in the cocktail bar. But nightlife doesn’t appeal to me anymore, so I’ve decided to start my academic journey. I speak three languages: English, Ukrainian, and Polish, and I have trouble spelling in all three of them. But thanks to technology, like Microsoft Word, for correcting me every time I spelled something wrong. One of the recent books I read is “A Psalm for the Wild-Built” by Becky Chambers. That book made me think about human-robot interaction from a different perspective. However, I don’t have a book I hate because if I start a book and it doesn’t catch me after the first fifty pages, I switch to another one.

I do a lot of cool things, and being in my thirties, I’ve seen and done a lot. But something first came to mind: I started rock climbing a year ago and have already done some hard routes outside(which is ten times harder than gym climbing). I have five bicycles, and they are all different for different styles of riding. Also, because I commute everywhere on a bike, I’ve been hit by a car three times, and only one time was my fault.

I’m very excited for this semester and to meet more cool people in this college.

I am in the Minnewaska State Park on my favorite bike that I build.
